about

In January of 2016 I had my last <italics> happy </italics> birthday. I did not know it at the time, but perceptively enough, I named this song (and the bonus beat version) "Happy Birthday/Happy Bonus Beats" after this day that I spent entirely in my studio.

The 29th. When I came shooting out of my mother's bloody vagina (thanks Nora, you know I appreciate you even if things aren't so sunny).

I was probably working on other songs and maybe even finishing stuff, but mostly I wrote this, start to finish, with nothing at all in mind or any sort of musical intention. I got caught up. I got increasingly late to dinner with my my partner. I was even pretty excited about the special dinner she was taking me to, but there are moments when the act of creation is focused, intricate, and exciting.

After that moment, I played it to other musicians, to DJs, to my booking partner at a 700 capacity Berlin club, to my girlfriend. I thought maybe I had a new musical direction. No one was at all excited about it. I asked the co-booker if I should send it to Berghain/Panorama Bar, as this was the first time in a couple years I hadn't played there every 5/6 months. He said No.

By the end of that year, I was without both my jobs (the club, the record store). I almost lost the job I left the record store for (the natural wine bar). My long term romantic entanglement disintegrated, but more importantly, my connection with that person in any other capacity did too. One of the La Mission founders quit and told me she never wanted to speak to me again. One moved to another country for work. The last remaining member of our collective was busy with school, work at Berghain, and trying to finish music for other great labels who liked his 12" we released. My DJ bookings dwindled to near none. Probably would have lost my apartment without the help of some generous friends & family.

I didn't have a new musical direction.

I am not sure I have ever written more music that sounds distinctly like this. That isn't so odd, though. I am wont to switch style, genre, process, ideas, meaning, emotion, intention, and equipment on the smallest of whims. This time, though, it was at least partially to do with my falling into the deepest depression I had experienced in 18 years. No wonder, I lost all the load bearing walls in the house of my identity. 4 years later, I am still unsure of who I want to be going forward.

But I tried to master the songs today. I think they sound good. I hope you enjoy them. There will be two hidden bonus Alternate versions. One done with Soundclouds DOLBY / NASA JPL (or whatever) ultra complex auto-mastering analysis tool, which you can adjust, and which is sometimes exactly perfect for songs. One is just because I kept thinking a processed live Clave sound was too aggressive, and tbh, I wore headphones all day to make music videos, so maybe all of them sound like ear fatigue.

Fuck platform monopolies and their marketing gimmicks in pursuit of controlling the market share of human survival. The creative person's material survival. Some of us are great at other jobs until the moment we realize we hate them and do not want to do them. Destroy the Employer/Employee relation, actually. Please don't give your heart to a world system based on exploitation of the luckless, give your heart to US!

Released on Friday the 13th. Do you have 2.69 on it? For the Psychedelic Linndrum Purplish Techfunk?

about

La Mission Berlin, Germany

We need to work towards flooding the market-even if for the moment only the intellectual market-with a mass of desires whose realization is not beyond the capacity of man's present means of action on the material world, but only beyond the capacity of social organization as it stands.

Oh honey, pls dont give yr heart to a world system based on exploitation of the luckless, give yr heart to US!
